The “did you see that headshot” moments, the “I can’t believe that car stunt actually worked” runs, the “we were down by ten kills and still turned it around” comebacks.

After a few matches, patterns start to show. You notice that one narrow alley that always turns into a meat grinder. You learn where players like to camp with snipers, which rooftops are worth fighting for, which staircase is basically a one-way ticket to the respawn screen if you rush it without checking. Sound helps too. A car engine revving up tells you someone is about to try something stupid. Footsteps on metal grates hint at enemies crossing overhead. A grenade bouncing near your feet gives you approximately half a thought to decide whether to run or accept your fate.
